As for the stupidest commercial of the year the NFL saved the best for last. In the 3rd quarter of the Indy-Tenn Game on comes an ad for a heart stent. With the normal warnings (talk to your doctor to see if this treatment is right for you). I'M calling my Doctor tomorrow to see if it's right for me.

Vicks release date

Everyone is saying that Vick, at the earliest can be released, May 2009( read the story on this page, "Persona non Grata"). I'll tell you he will be at training camp next year. Ever hear of prison over crowding or how about an appeal of his sentence. They can release him at any time they want to.

Will Ricky Willams start for Miami the 26th?

I think he will , but I hope not.

Joe

Here's a bet for you

I think Buff will beat New Eng outright. Now here is my proposition bet. I'll take Buff with no (ZERO) points, But You must lay me odds. The odds are 15.5:1. It is the spread but converted to odds. I'll bet 1 Beer or a 6 pack, that's up to you. So if you want to take me up on this bet, if I bet 1 beer your are betting 15.5, and if I bet a 6 pack, your betting 93 beers.
Post your bets. Remember that you pick if I'm betting 1 beer or a 6 pack.
Hope some of you will take me up on this bet.

The opposite bet

Dave and I were talking earlier and thought if Eric picked his teams and bet the opposite . He would be winning by a large margin. He would be 80-42, 15 games better then the leader.
So I think, Eric, and I should go to Vegas, now that I see a pattern.

2007 Rankings: Bookend Partners

I found this today and thought I'd post it.

Joe

'07 Rankings: Bookend Partners

By Jason Cole and Charles Robinson
October 23, 2007

The Patriots and Colts' routs kept them in the top two positions, respectively, and moved them one step closer to a battle of unbeatens in Indianapolis on Nov. 4. At the opposite end of the rankings, the Rams and Dolphins look like serious contenders to remain winless this season.

While no one made a major move up in both writers' rankings, the Buccaneers took a fall outside of the "Top 12" after losing to the Lions. And while the Broncos moved closer to the "Top 12" on one side, they remain at the "Bottom of the Pack" by the other writer.

Here are the complete rankings following Week 7 action.

Cole: OK, Miami isn't very good, but what New England did to them was absolutely ridiculous in putting up 42 points in the first half. But enough about the latest exploits of the Patriots, who are playing like they're seriously ticked at the league. Can't imagine why. As ludicrous as this sounds, I'm getting the feeling that the Patriots could go undefeated if they really wanted to this season. Then again, they have to deal with Indianapolis on Nov. 4. … As for the rest of the top of the league, you would have gotten some seriously long odds on a parlay from me that Cleveland and Kansas City would have been in the top 10 of the league. Yeah, the Browns are a pretty big reach at No. 10, it's not like anybody else deserves to be there right now. Seattle needs to figure out if it's going to be good or not after a couple of ugly games preceding the victory over St. Louis. … In all, after the top three, this is about as fluid as it gets.

Robinson: This whole idea that the Patriots can't establish the run is a myth. Come playoff time, the triumvirate of Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk will be just fine. And who needs to establish the run when there isn't a secondary in the league that can hold down your passing game? … One Colt who could really, really hurt New England's defense: Dallas Clark. … Seven games into the season, and Terrell Owens is quietly having one of his most superb seasons. Seriously. As welcome as his good behavior has been this season, it almost seems awkward. … With David Garrard limping, that decision to dump Byron Leftwich and his salary looks like a big mistake. And no, I'll never buy that the Jaguars cut Leftwich because his presence would have undermined Garrard. … The Texans and that struggling defense are on the verge of a serious beat down at the hands of the Chargers. … Raise your hand if you agree with Ray Lewis and the rest of the Baltimore fan base when it comes to Brian Billick's mundane offensive play-calling.

Cole: San Diego is going to creep into the top 12 pretty soon because it has a favorable schedule coming up. … Carolina fans (yeah, the few of you who actually stay for home games) were a bit up in arms about their team being underrated, but it's hard to take any team seriously that has only one legitimate offensive player (wide receiver Steve Smith) and a pair of quarterbacks who are either really bad (David Carr) or really old (Vinny Testaverde). … New Orleans has made a quick rise back to the middle of the pack, but that victory over Atlanta didn't receive any style points. Well, maybe a couple for Reggie Bush on the go-ahead touchdown. Bush showed a lot of determination on a couple of critical plays.

Robinson: Just what the Broncos needed after their biggest win of the season – more drama from Brandon Marshall. Even after teammate Darrent Williams' death, his head still isn't screwed on straight. … At some point, Shaun Alexander has to break out of this funk. Then again, maybe he's showing the typical signs of decline for 30-year old running backs. … Priest Holmes steps back on the field and suddenly people are talking about a running back controversy in Kansas City? Anyone who would take an aging, beat-up Holmes over Larry Johnson needs their head examined. … It can't be a good sign for Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner that after Brian Griese's headset went out Chicago's offense got exponentially better with Griese calling the plays. … Not to insult Kenny Watson, but at full health, Rudi Johnson is hands down the No. 1 running back in Cincinnati.

Cole: It's hard to get a feel for whether Denver is a decent team or a team that happens to get something going once in awhile. The issue probably has to do with the fact that the Broncos are really well coached, but not particularly talented. In other words, they can make some things happen when all of Mike Shanahan's calls go right, but they can't sustain anything for an extended time. … As for the bottom of the league, being 0-7 is as miserable as it gets. Or as Dolphins defensive end Jason Taylor said after Miami got hammered by New England, “I could be in Iraq.”

Robinson: They might be 2-4, but with the injuries they're dealing with, the Bills coaching staff is doing a hell of a job. And while we're on the subject of the Bills, someone can tell J.P. Losman to start packing his bags. … Considering the injuries suffered by the teams on its schedule, it's conceivable that New Orleans could win its next four games and go into the Nov. 25 tilt at Carolina at 6-4. … The more you watch the Eagles, the more you believe that Donovan McNabb won't be quarterbacking that franchise in 2008. … Ditto for Chad Pennington's tenure with the Jets. … Forget the Patriots – when do we start talking about the odds that Miami or St. Louis will go 0-16?

Joe makes another mistake

All right I forgot Allyson. But she is in now. That is 17 players so far. The strange thing is with 17 players, and the year starts tomorrow, I have only one pick, MINE. call. I do not look at my email the day of the games, and I can't call every one . So do call.

We have 16 players

This is the list of new players Janet, Amy, Eric, Brad, Trish, Kass, and Chris.
If I left some one out call me soon.

Finaly

This is a long post or maybe not as Jackie is home today and she is asking me about taxes.
The order that we finished, wins and losses for the whole year (259 games) except for Joe A, and Colleen (246 games), Winning %, winning % -8pushes, Games Back , games over 500 -8 games and play off results;

1st Joe 141 wins, 118 loses 544%, 562% -8pushes, Games back 0, games over 500 -8 pushes 31, playoff results 5-6
2nd Dave 135W, 124L 521%, 538%-8p, GB6, over500-8p 19, playoff 5-6
3rd Jackie, 134W, 125L, 517%, 534% -8p, 7GB, over 500 -8p 17, play off 9-2
4th Shawn, 132W, 127L, 510%, 526% -8p, 9GB, over 500 -8p 13, playoff 5-6
5th Jim R, 130W, 129L, 502%, 518% -8p, 11GB, over 500 -8p 9, playoff 5-6
6th Mitch, 129W, 130L, 498%, 514% -8p, 12GB, over500 -8p 7, playoff 6-5
7th Rich, 127W, 132L, 490%, 506% -8p, 14GB, over 500 -8p 3, playoff 4-7
--- Joe H, 127W, 132L, 490%, 506% -8p, 14GB, over 500 -8p 3, playoff 6-5
8th-----------------------------------------------------------------------
9th Colleen, 122W, 137L, 496%*, 513% -21p, 19GB, over 500- 21p 6, playoff5-6
10th Jim A, 116W, 143L, 471%*, 487%-21p, 25GB, 6 under 500 less 21p, playoff 3-8
* Colleen and Jim A were locked out of 13 games

If you look at the Games over 500, minus the 8 pushes, you'll see that if we played with a bookie, everyone would have made money except for, Jim A. If we add that column up the ATS was 102 games over 500.

This year was fun. I'll tell you when the award ceremony is later.

I want to thank all of you for letting me beat your brains in (Joking).

Last game

OK, I'll take Indy. I have always been an AFC fan, but giving 7 to Chicago is not good.

7 or 8 Pushes

I got a email from Bob today and if he is right I have 1 more win. So I'm not going to change anything. Here is his reply:
Joe...I do not have the time or inclination to proof my picks for the 17-week season. When there is an occasional miscalculation, people advise me THAT week and it is easy to correct....A QUICK look indicates that the Carolina Panthers were favored by 9 Week 5, not by 8. Carolina won 20-12. So it was not a push. I hope that helps....Bob Matthews --

Joe'sweek 18 picks

Here we go;
Indy -7
Dallas +3
Jets+9
Phily -7

Good luck all.
By the way every body beat Bob Matthews In the D&C. Bob claims that he went 111-138- 7. He is wrong because their was 8 pushes. But the good news is everyone beat him, not too bad seeing that none of us make a living predicting the NFL.
